As part of efforts in advancing pharmaceutical practice, sciences and education, particularly in the homeland, the Nigerian Association of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists in the Americas (NAPPSA) has founded a peer review journal called the American Journal of Pharmacotherapy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (AJPPS).

The introduction of AJPPS, which is a great feat for the association, ranks NAPPSA as the very first Nigerian Diasporan professional organisation to own a peer review journal. It also accentuates the voices of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists in the comity of global scientists.

In a chat with Pharmanewsonline, the Immediate Past President, NAPPSA, who is the Co-Founder and Chair, Journal Management Board, (AJPPS) Anthony C. Ikeme, PhD, disclosed that the vision of the journal was one of his 10-Year Growth Strategy Plan he launched for the association during his administration, as he expressed his great pleasure in seeing the vision actualised.

With this accomplishment, NAPPSA now stands as the very first Nigerian Diasporan professional organization to own her own peer reviewed journal.

“It also allows the NAPPSA scientific community the opportunity to help shape the global research agenda. Other key initiatives highlighted in the strategic roadmap include a NAPPSA Endowment Fund (NEF), the acquisition of a NAPPSA House in the Washington DC Metropolis and the set-up of a NAPPSA Research Institute (NRI)”.

Explaining the uniqueness of the AJPPS, he noted that it is different from any other journal, because it is about a professional organisation owning a peer review journal and deploying their collective intellectual will to the advancement of their profession as well as serving as a voice for their community.
